2005 Volvo V70 D5

Here for sale is my 2005 Volvo V70 D5 in exceedingly good condition for its age and mileage.

I bought it a month ago as a stop gap when my regular car suffered a mechanical failure and I needed a comfortable and economical car to commute in for a month. I spent the best part of a weekend looking at cars within my £2,000 budget, and even attempting to align my expectations to my budget, I couldn’t believe how much rubbish there was out there (taped over warning lights, cars described as immaculate but with footwells full of fag butts and kicked in speaker grills, I saw it all). At this point I saw this V70, and couldn’t believe how good it was. There is barely a mark on the exterior, the seats show no signs of wear, four matching good brand tyres with decent tread, and a decent service history. I’ve since put 3,000 miles on it in the past month, and it has been a joy. The seats are unbelievably comfortable, the engine is strong and returns 50+ mpg, and the boot is vast. This is also the most sought-after version of the phase 2 V70 – it combines the earlier more economical and reliable version of the D5 engine with the later facelift body and interior.

I’m tempted to keep it, but having spent a large amount repairing my regular car, I can’t afford to move that one on.

Good bits:

- Dual Mass Flywheel (DMF) and clutch replaced within the past 2 years (receipts to prove) – this is the one big expense on these cars that always needs doing every 100-130k miles

- Engine mount bush recently replaced (another common failure item on these)

- Very clean body work and interior

- Air con blows cold

- Good service history - lots of stamps in the book

- Everything works

Not so good bits:

- MOT expires 21st March

- Due a service

- Intermittent “Anti Skid Service Required” message on the computer. I’ve seen it a handful of times in the 3,000 miles I’ve driven it. It clears when restarting and doesn’t affect the drive

Mileage is currently 146,000 bu will increase as it is still in use.

Due to the short MOT and no longer needing the car, I am looking to move it along again for a quick sale at what would be a bargain price. If it doesn’t sell at this price, then I will get a fresh MOT (not expecting it to fail based on how well it drives) and put it back up for sale for the market rate of around £2,000. Based on my recent experience, you will struggle to find a better condition car at this age and mileage, and certainly not at this price.
