In short, the car is in fantastic condition and runs like a dream. Completely stock and rides perfectly. The original interior is a throwback to when it left the factory and it's a joy to sit in. I've gone into a lot more detail below, so please read on :)
1969 1500 VW Beetle "Albert" reluctantly for sale. 85,919 miles (raising daily), full history and a book which has been filled in by all previous owners, keeping track of parts that have been replaced and the general condition of the car - I dare you to find another car with this history and the story behind it!
Genuinely a fantastic little car, I'd love to be able to keep the car as a weekend car but I can't afford to keep this and get a daily, so unfortunately needs must. I'd love to find it a home where it will be cherished as much as it has with me and the previous owner, and not to be slammed/modified in any way, just kept stock, as the Beetle should be!
I have owned and ran Albert as a daily driver for 18 months now (approx. 8000 miles completed), with only one small issue (clutch bearing retaining clips came loose - new clutch, bearing and clips fitted). I have ran him to and from work every working day, for 7 months I was doing over 40 miles a day, so Albert is extremely reliable.
Completely stock other than a Vintage Speed stainless steel exhaust (£500) and updated to electronic ignition, you will be pushed to find a more original Beetle. The interior is as it came out of the factory, all seats are in exceptional condition as is the headlining. The dashboard still has the original dealer sticker - which was Cartune VW in Middlesbrough.
Interior
As above, the interior is in incredible condition considering the car is 50 years old in December! It's a throwback to the day it left the factory and you'll be amazed by how well it has been looked after. I did have a small water leak but found this was the rear window seal, which was replaced immediately. Everything is stock, there is no radio and everything works.
Exterior
The car has no rust. The paintwork is not perfect by any means, but there are no visible scratches - the blemishes are where the car has been touched up in the past. It's by no means perfect, but I use the car every day, so a show and shine paintwork is not what I was after. The brightwork (hub caps and bumpers) are also not in the best of condition and have pitting to them. I would be replacing these in the future if keeping the car, but they are still OK to use on the car. Again, the car is completely stock, so sits at the stock height.
There are a pair of Cibie fog lights at the front of the car, mounted on the front bumper. These were fitted by the previous owner after finding out these were fitted as an optional extra on purchasing the car in 1969. Adds to the originality of the car.
Mechanicals & Engine
The car is in fantastic condition underneath and has been lightly undersealed, so you can see how well it has been looked after and how good a condition it is in. As stated above, I have had a new clutch (still have the original with the car, which is still in good condition) and clutch bearing fitted, along with a Vintage Speed stainless exhaust (old exhaust corroded). The original heat exchangers are still in extremely good working order and the heating to the cabin still works fine.
The engine leaks a small bit of oil out of the rocker covers but I have fitted a new set and the original set and the originals seem to fit a bit better. It has never bothered me and the oil has always been topped up and replaced every 3000 miles (done this twice already). The engine runs like a dream, starts on the button, and pulls like a train! Original matching numbers car/engine.
The brakes have just had an overhaul - new shoes on the rear, pads on the front (original discs fitted to the front) and a new master cylinder due to a small leak.
New battery just fitted.
Please feel free to ask any questions, I have tried to be as honest as I possibly can. If you would like any specific photos taking, please let me know and I will get them over as soon as possible.
Thanks for looking.
