LHD 1967 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 Series II

The Series II 330 GT 2+2 elegant lines were the work of Pininfarina. This second series differed from the first predominantly in the front-end treatment; the first series (1963-1965) having four headlights and the second (1965-1967) having the two. At the same time, the Borrani wire wheels gave way to ten-hole cast alloy wheels, still with the knock-off Rudge hubs, although the wire wheels remained available as an option and were opted on this car.
The engine is a SOHC per bank 4-litre 12-cylinder unit, engine tipo 209/66, with a total capacity of 3967cc. It has an outside ‘V’ spark plug arrangement, fitted with a bank of three twin choke Weber 40 DFI carburettors, a twin coil and a rear of engine-mounted distributor ignition system producing 300 bhp. The engine is based on the original Colombo ’short’ block design but was slightly longer with increased bore centres to provide adequate waterways with the larger diameter cylinder bores.
The engine Tipo was differentiated from the earlier Tipo 209 due to the number of mounting points: 209 had four, while 209/66, as here, had two. The engine is coupled to a 5-speed, all synchromesh gearbox and a final drive through a propeller shaft to a rigid rear axle. Whereas, early Series I cars had a 4-speed gearbox with an electronically operated overdrive.
This left-hand drive example was imported into Spain by Concesionario Tayre, S.L. in June 1967 and has recently completed a three-year, more than 3,600 working hours, nut and bolt restoration having spent its life in Spain having had two long-term Spanish owners from new. It is in its back in its original colour combination of Grigio Notte 18933 Met over Nero Franzi with its original Connolly leather intact and original. The car is located at our workshops in the UK.
This example also has a special rear seat arrangement from new adding to its GT capabilities and credentials. The car is a concours winner having won the Gold Cup Best Classic Car award at the 2017 Autobello Meeting in Madrid, Spain, a testament to the quality of the work. Having now road-tested the car ourselves, it is undeniably one of the best examples mechanically and cosmetically we have seen and has covered 78,000km from new.
