Here is my lovely Phase 3 Peugeot 306 GTi6. Extremely reliable and in good condition.
Owned and continuously used for over 11 years. In that time, it has been faultless, having never broken down.
Until about eight weeks ago it was my weekday commuting car, a round trip of 11 miles per day, plus occasional weekend use. Only once has it failed to start on a particularly cold December morning due to a flat battery. With a new battery, normal service returned - starting on the first turn of the key, every time, every day. Yes, it really is that good!
MOT certificates from 2004 to 2018, proving the low mileage is genuine. Recently passed for another 12 months, until 22/09/2019. There is one advisory, for a weeping front damper.
Extensive documentation for services, tyres, exhausts etc from October 2004 to date. The cambelt was last changed in September 2016 along with the water pump. From 2007 to 2016, the vehicle was maintained by a Peugeot/Citroen specialist, Car Prep, real experts in this era of cars. Unfortunately, John and David have now retired. Other recent replacements are, new exhaust (2015), front pads (2016) and front discs (2017). See below for dates and mileages of service history.
The bolster of driver’s seat has the normal wear which these seats are affected by, see picture. The roof of the vehicle is also affected by the dreaded lacquer peel, again normal for these vehicles. Neither of these are too bad though.
The rest of the paint is in really good condition with a couple of exceptions, some stone chips on the front bumper, a chip on the plate under the rear hatch, a small scratch on the nearside rear wing, a car parking “ding” on the offside rear wing and scratches and scuffs on the front nearside bumper – thanks Mum! And the wheels would benefit from being restored. See pictures. I include these in the spirit of being open and honest about the condition of the car. They are are not significant and would be considered as fairly normal in a 18 year old car. And all could be repaired with the right expertise at relatively low cost.
The air-con does not work, it wasn’t working when I bought the car. I got it repaired, but it didn’t last, and I didn’t bother with it again.
As per the MOT advisory, one of the front dampers is weeping. This does mean that both front dampers should be replaced. I have held off from doing this recently as the car is perfectly useable for my needs as it is. I also knew that I was going to replace the car at some point and a new owner would probably prefer to fit the damper of their choice, not my choice.
The vehicle is standard and has not been mistreated. I don’t rev the engine in the lower gears and not when the engine is cold.
Four good Vredesten Quatrac 5 All Season tyres (2014), good in winter and in summer. Battery cover. Rear parcel shelf. Original jack and wheel brace. Full set of OEM Peugeot rubber floor mats. And a second full set of non-OEM carpet mats.
The vehicle has a modern Kenwood DAB radio, CD, USB etc with Bluetooth for hands-free phone calls (2014). Also has a small sub-woofer in the boot. Model numbers KDC-BT73DAB and KSC-SW11. Remote control for the head unit and the sub-woofer. Upgraded speakers in front doors and rear parcel shelf – the stereo sounds good! Unfortunately, I have never had the original stereo.
Boot floor is sound, no signs of corrosion. Body also has no signs of corrosion. Comment from the MOT tester in 2017, “that’s a good car”. And the same MOT tester remembered the vehicle at the 2018 test!
I have the bill of sale when I bought the vehicle in 2007 and the bill of sale from the previous owner, when he bought the vehicle in 2005, from Sportshatch Specialists in Reading. I also have photocopies of two previous V5 documents. Four previous keepers. I am the fifth. I also have documents for two “HPI” type checks. One from 2007 when I bought the car, and one from August 2004. All documents mentioned are included in the sale.
And of limited relevance perhaps, this is my fourth Peugeot, having previously owned a 306Xsi, a 406 Turbo and a 205 1.6 GTi. And I am now lucky to be driving my fifth, a 208 GTi BPS.
