The file of this Jaguar reads like a history book - it truly is special and we at BM feel very responsible for finding the next custodian of this small slice of Jaguar history; please excuse the 'Wheeler Dealer' speak but it really does pain us to sell this one - there won't be another like it and we fully hoped to keep it in our own collection when we acquired it.... but sadly:
A retirement treat to the original owner after many years of aspiring to Jaguar ownership, you really can sense the consideration that went into their very significant purchase in 1994:-
The file starts with the Mail on Saturday newspaper clipping from 24th April 1993; Headline "Executive cats take the cream" - the picture captions " The XJ6 3.2S is aimed at the 'youthfully-minded top earners' and comes with £4,910 worth of free extras".
The Next chapter: the brochures and price list picked up from the 1993 Earls Court motor show - the business cards of the Jaguar representatives stapled inside and the preferred options highlighted......notes inside the back cover include OTR price and that Jaguar had offered to include 2 years free servicing. The various brochures include the Jaguar range guide, price lists, accessories brochure and colour and trim guides.
The file then continues into the new car order sheet from Meads of Chelmsford, the various service invoices and correspondence from Jaguar. You really could not ask for a more detailed history with a car.
Unfortunately the ageing owner was unable to use the car from 2008, when it was laid up his dry garage.
It has since been recommissioned in 2018 at an expense of £1,500 plus new tyres all around and a new battery. The car has proved perfectly reliable since recommissioning and completed a faultless 300 mile round trip recently - a reminder of what cruising in a luxury car should be about - serene comfort!
As you may expect of an original car, it is still on the original supplying number plates, comes with all keys and remotes on the supplying dealer key-rings. The full toolkit is in the boot and the Jaguar Owner's Guide tape is still in the centre console.
The XJ40 is getting increasing attention from Jaguar and classic car enthusiasts alike. We've been a fan since we bought our first XJ40 Sovereign 17 years ago - at a time when they were truly underrated but no less special - now there are fewer XJ40s on the road than ever and even fewer in this condition.
For the real 'enthusiast'; check out some of the YouTube videos online - they include some 1980's documentaries that give an insight to the development of the XJ40 - an enormous investment from the British Government in the 1980s that resulted in a car some way ahead of its time.
