The 911 was already 21 years old in 1984 and believed by many to be out of date and old fashioned. The factory effort was focused on developing the 924, 944 and 928 but thanks to an army of devoted 911 customers, a vociferous dealer network and new board member Helmuth Bott, the legendary 911 model was saved from the scrapheap and the 3.2 Carrera was born.

“Driving in its purest form” is how the sales brochure describes the 3.2 Carrera. With a 3,164cc flat 6 engine, producing 231 bhp and 284 nm of torque without ABS, power steering or any of the electronic driver aids, we kind of think the brochure was right. The unforgettable sound of the air-cooled flat 6 mixed with a 152 MPH top speed and a 0-60 time of 6.1 seconds is addictive. The 3.2 Carrera also has its place in the record books as the last Porsche to carry the legendary 911 factory designation.

This particular car was ordered through the Porsche Exclusive program and also features M491 Turbo look, more commonly known as Super Sport. The Super Sport featured the normally aspirated 3.2 engine but mated to the Turbo suspension, Turbo brakes, Turbo bodywork, Turbo spoilers and larger width Turbo Fuchs alloys. This Super Sport in convertible variant and this colour combination was a true slice of the exuberant 80s.

This car was given brand new to the current owner in 1988 at the age of just 22 years old. Now, most of us would have assumed that would have been a disaster. My Dad thought I would have been lucky to last 24 hours driving a 911 at the age of 22. However, the opposite happened. This 22 year old, living in the centre of London, actually felt very self-conscious, if not a little embarrassed driving such an ostentatious car around. As a result of this, the car has spent its entire life in storage and, mixed with the owner’s self-confessed OCD, now must represent the best example available in right hand drive.

This extraordinary car has to be the most collectable example available and the most complete. The car is 100% original and never painted. She will be handed over to the new owner with the original sales brochures, price list, leather wallet, handbooks, service book, the Porsche Driving book handed to new owners as a gift, all the tools, compressor, hood cover, the unopened Porsche valet kit, the original order form, the original sales invoice for £55,452 and the letter from Porsche thanking the customer for the order.

The car has passed through our workshop for a full age related check over. The following maintenance is currently being carried out ensuring the car is turnkey for the new owner.

Carry out drain of all fluids. Change all fuses and clean up fuse holders. Replace fuel pump. Carry out major service and adjust valve clearances. Replace rear hood screen. Clean and protect soft top. Carry out removal of all brake calipers and rebuild. Fit all new brake hoses. Rebuild brake master cylinder and bleed brakes. Rebuild clutch master cylinder. Rebuild clutch slave cylinder and bleed. Replace boot and bonnet gas struts. Replace all tyres with Continental’s. Install original Blaupunkt Atlanta. Replace o/s/f headlight glass. Replace alternator belt. Replace rear torsion bar bushes and covers. Carry out adjustment of ride height and four wheel alignment. Carry out thorough clean of underside of car. Treat suspension components with Tectyl ML and very carefully wax underside of car with clear wax.
