SOLD - 2002 TVR CERBERA 4.5 V8 - "SAVAGE BEAUTY"! - SOLD
"SAVAGE BEAUTY" has been SOLD !
An Extract from a recent Cerbera V8 Advert we posted….
“You’ve noticed the price of TVRs is climbing. You can’t justify buying a Sagaris and anyway you’ve got small children. You’ve been tempted by the TVR Cerbera 4.5 – the most powerful road-going TVR produced during Peter Wheeler’s reign at Blackpool……….”
And then you studied the sources relating to this car and you said to yourself : “Its really beautiful, but it’s a shame it’s a 4.2 ! I am really looking for a 4.5 V8 !!”.
Relax ! First off, towards the end of Cerbera production, TVR ran out of 4.2 Cylinder blocks, so it was decided to build 4.2 engines using 4.5 Blocks, Cranks, Conrods, and Cylinder Heads – with the only difference being the build of the throttle bodies .….”
And it gets better, this 4.2 is actually a verified 4.5 ! This will be confirmed as you read on ……!!
So why is this specific Cerbera so beautiful ? Well, the first three owners kept the car in such good condition it fully matched the requirements of the fourth owner. He is a TVRaholic who was looking for a Cerbera to return - as close as is possible – to “As New Condition”. The car had covered just over 44,000 miles when the MD of a specialist General Motors Dealership (so, a well qualified and experienced judge of automotive machinery) purchased the car in August 2012.
The following month the engine was removed from the car and transported over 300 miles to Str8six – a company he already knew well. Here it was fully stripped and confirmed to be a factory built 4.5 litre with 4.2 Throttle Bodies – as with many late model Cerbera engines.
A full rebuild was then instigated. The cylinder liners were checked for ovality and machine honed . The crankshaft was polished. The block and all covers were bead blasted and the covers powder-coated. Every gasket, ring, chain, bearing and seal was replaced. The cylinder heads were fully reworked and the valve seats were cut to suit three angles before being the heads were rebuilt and valves clearances adjusted. The perfect 4.5 litre specification engine was then returned for re-installation at an appropriate stage of the car’s total overhaul.
The next two years witnessed the “full body off” restoration of this car, including preventative attention to the chassis, comprehensive suspension renewal, and full differential, and gearbox bush and bracket renewal. And to finish the presentation to the requisite standard, the bodywork was fully repainted and the trim was addressed by masters of these specialist arts.
Naturally enough the owner - knowing the importance of original provenance - did not change the car’s exterior colour nor its interior trim colour. And so it is, as the photographs confirm, that this car is resplendent in TVR OE Imperial Blue with Cream half hide upholstery and Navy Carpeting. And of course, It runs on 18” OE Silver Spider alloys.
The car was stored in the Owner's General Motors Showroom with some other TVRs until such stage as the MD’s Sales Manager campaigned for showroom space for GM products ! And so it was that Str8six agreed to purchase this unique and stunning Cerbera.
Str8six collected this very well prepared car and went through everything with a fine tooth comb. Our plan was to take this car - one of the best Cerberas in the UK - to the Historic Motorsports International Motorshow at The London Classic Car Show in February 2018. And there is really only one standard thathas to be achieved to display in that International Motorshow - Exceptional. So, you can rest assured that this car really is one of the best Cerberas currently available to purchase.
Yes, this stunning TVR may be a little more expensive that some of the more run of the mill exampleson the market at the moment. And it may be that you would like this car in your garage but feel that may be a bridge too far financially? If this is the case, then you might be interested to know that this particular Classic TVR is eligible for a Finance Arrangement that extends way beyond normal terms – indeed as far as a period of 10 years if you so wish.
Str8six will supply this superb car fully prepared, with the balance of a 12K service, 12 months MOT, 12 months Tax and a Full, “No Quibble” 12 months / 12,000 miles Wear and Tear Warranty, which covers Parts and Labour on the whole car. . The car will be equipped with a 12 volt battery charger and a set of Jump Leads. It will also be provided with its own bespoke Interior Car Cover.
There are some other persuasive factors to consider, which relate to the performance of the Cerbera model - TVR’s first first 2 + 2 Sportscar, manufactured from 1996 to 2003 – and equipped with TVR’s first in house engine. As you know, early examples were built with a 4.2 Litre 75 degree flat plane crank V8 - then offering one of the highest specific outputs of any naturally aspirated V8 at 83.3 hp/litre ! The 4.5 litre V8 engine, as fitted to this car, lifted that to 93.3 hp/litre !!
This 4.5 litre engine (Normally Aspirated) delivers 360 bhp at 6,500 RPM and develops 320 lb-ft at 4,500 rpm. This gives the car a 0-60 sprint time of 4.2 secs and a top speed of 185, mph. Fuel consumption figures lie between 16 – 24 mpg. If you are brave enough to exploit the engine’s full throttle power above 4,000 RPM you will discover why some say that a Cerbera V8 engine is savage. (Hence the nickname “Savage Beauty”)!!
And, just so you can be sure that this car is worth its reassuringly expensive price, please review the exceptional history recorded below!
